Chipped, Cracked, Broken and Split Nails: The Struggle is Real

A girl’s nails say a lot about them and let’s face it, all of us have that struggle of wanting to keep them up but sometimes it just isn’t possible. Going to get your nails done can be costly and the after after effects of taking them off can leave your nails looking worse than they did before getting them done. I normally do my nails myself but even that doesn’t always work out because to combat my nail polish chipping I find myself constantly doing my nails. We do not live in a world where there is time for this so I have come up with a few do’s and don’ts to help out with the nail struggle.

Do’s

Take a break from polish for a day or two and just rock a nail strengthener, not all of them are expensive and it really helps the condition of your nails. Always use a base coat and top coat, your nail polish may not last a week but at it will keep your nails free from chips for at least three days. Nail glue, will become your best friend for cracks in your nails. It is a quick way to fix a small crack within your nail. Lastly, always keep a nail file with you at all times because you never know when you might break a nail.

Don’ts

Though it may seem like a good idea never apply more than 2-5 coats of polish on your nails, the more polish on you have on your nails can increase the chipping factor. Always remove polish with nail polish remover, do not try to peel it off. It may seem like a good idea but it will only increase the risk for breakage. Expensive nail polish does not always equal staying power so keep that in mind when you are perusing through the many colors available at the drug store. When using nail glue make sure to not over do it and use a nail buffer afterwards to fix any raised edges from the glue. Finally, if you do get your nails professionally done, let the professionals handle your nail care.
